Hey there, adventurers and homebodies alike! Ever felt like your living room turned into a corporate office and your kids became mini Zoom executives? Yeah, me too. 2020 was a whirlwind of remote work, online shopping, and absolutely zero jet-setting. But it wasn’t all bad; it actually set the stage for my newfound love of local getaways. And that’s how Forgotten Routes was born.
The Breaking Point
So, for months on end, my life was all about work. My kids were tech-tied, and I was practically married to my computer. It felt like we were all hunkering down in our digital caves, emerging only to grab the Uber Eats bag from the front door. I couldn’t take it anymore; something had to give. Kids need to be kids, and honestly, adults need to be kids sometimes too.
As restrictions began to lift, the idea of weekend getaways started looking less like a luxury and more like a necessity. But where to start? That’s when I hit up some buddies and said, “Guys, I need an escape.” And just like that, our bi-weekly adventure tradition kicked off.
The Turning Point: Swapping City Wheels for Rugged Rides
Until that point, my BMW X5 was my ride-or-die. But let’s face it, it wasn’t built for going off the beaten path. So, after some serious thought and a nudge from my mate Frik, I took the plunge and switched to an Isuzu D-Max. I won’t lie; it was a tough call. But now, I’ve got this rugged 4×4 that’s ready for anything. And no, I don’t miss the BMW.
Adventures So Far
In just two months, we’ve explored more local gems than ever before. We’ve travelled through routes that don’t even show up on Google Maps. Each trip wasn’t just a break from routine; it was a return to living. My friends, family, and even some of you joined in on these expeditions, making them all the more special.
What’s Next for Forgotten Routes
Chatting with Eric, who’s already been on a couple of trips with us, we realized we had to share these incredible experiences. That’s when the idea for Forgotten Routes really took shape. We’re not just keeping these adventures to ourselves; we’re here to take you along for the ride, virtually speaking.
