These terms are between you and UpdateMe (PTY) LTD (“we”, “us”), the makers of Forgotten Routes. By using the app you agree to them. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the app.
Drive safely, always
- You are the driver. The app gives directions and suggestions; you decide what is safe. Follow the road rules, the road signs and the conditions in front of you, even when the app says something different.
- Don’t handle the phone while driving. Use voice, the car screen (CarPlay, Android Auto) or a passenger. The app limits typing and the camera while the car is moving for this reason.
- Speed warnings and 0–100 timing are for information only. They are not exact or official. Forgotten Routes does not encourage speeding or racing.
- Back roads are different. Routes can include gravel, 4×4 tracks, mountain passes, river crossings and private or closed roads. Conditions change with weather and season, and maps can be out of date. Check conditions, your vehicle’s ability and access rights before you go, and turn back if a road isn’t safe.
- Signal can drop. In remote areas the app may work offline with limited features. Tell someone your plans, carry water, fuel and a way to call for help, and don’t rely on the app as your only safety tool.
Your account
- You need to be at least 13 to use the app.
- Keep your sign-in secure. You are responsible for what happens on your account.
- You can delete your account at any time (see Delete account).
Crews, territory and leaderboards
- Territory is a game. Hexagons are claimed by driving through them, as described in the app. Claims are checked on our servers, and we may remove claims, points or records that come from faked locations, simulated drives, or anything that breaks these rules.
- Crew leaders can invite and remove members. Be respectful. Crews and their names must follow the content rules below.
- Leaderboards show display names, crew names and territory, not exact routes. We may change scoring to keep the game fair.
Your content
- You own what you add: photos, voice notes, story pins, journal text, crew names and shared logs.
- You give us a licence to store, process and show that content to the people you share it with, so the app can work (for example, your crew seeing a journal entry).
- Don’t post content that:
- is illegal, threatening, hateful or harassing
- is sexually explicit or violent
- infringes someone else’s rights
- shares someone else’s private information
- shows private property you had no right to enter
- You can report content in the app. We may remove content or suspend accounts that break these rules.
The AI co-pilot
Laura and Indy are AI co-pilots. Their stories, suggestions and answers are generated and can be wrong. Don’t rely on them for safety, legal or medical decisions. Always check road and access information yourself.
Maps and third-party services
Maps, search and routing come from HERE Technologies and their data providers. The co-pilot uses xAI. These services have their own terms, and their data can contain errors.
Changes and availability
We keep improving the app, and features can change or stop. We may update these terms; when a change matters, we’ll tell you in the app. The app is provided “as is”. As far as South African law allows, we are not liable for loss or damage from using it, including damage to vehicles or injury on the road.
